The ISSA has detected an influx of alien spacecraft. Are they friend or foe? Radio frequency verification is under way, the Space Warrior team is on high alert: Lasers loaded, jet packs fueled, night vision visors locked on. The team flies a practiced grid, each slightly overlapping the other; they peer into the depths of the solar system. “What’s that flash?” Nothing, just a small solar flare, happens all the time. Up there, above them, an abandoned communications satellite drifts helplessly into oblivion. Nobody back on earth could ever imagine the amount of junk up here. The race to settle space has also been the race to clutter to space.

“Wait a minute!” Avenger pulls up short, her laser rifle pressed hard against her shoulder. “Alien spacecraft 9:00!!” she shouts into her headset and begins to fire before the last words have had time to register with ISSA, or her two companions.
